From the earliest days of the Charlotte Hornets in 1892, professional baseball has a long tradition in Charlotte. Since 1999 they have been an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox MLB team. The Hornets became the Charlotte Knights in the late 1980s and are a Triple A minor league baseball team playing in the International League. Notable alumni include Curt Schilling, Jon Garland, Joe Crede, Aaron Rowand and Cal Ripken Jr.
